A Great Cause
One of the main objectives of the Adam
Taliaferro Foundation is giving. That not
only means giving to those athletes who
have suffered from a spinal cord injury, it
also means giving up some time. And no
one gives more than the Board of
Directors for the ATF.
Many of the front office members of
the ATF have full-time jobs and volunteer
their time to a good cause. President Jim
Horner resides over the Foundation, with
vice president Chris Mourtos, secretary
Kathleen M. Moscufo and treasurer Larry
Ginsburg (Taliaferro’s high school coach)
also firmly in place.
Then, there’s the board.
Ron Jaworski, Ukee Washington, Tom
Curley, Dave Maxwell, Josh Marks,
Esquire and Jason Cole, MBA, all have a
hand in organizing events, including the
Adam Taliaferro All-Star Football Classic
held at Rowan University (N.J.) each
year, which helps finance and promote
this organization, and decides who
should be the recipient of the annual
$5,000 grant.
Overall, the ATF provides educational
resources and information on the
prevention of cervical spine injuries,
as well as appropriate medical protocols
for the immediate recognition of spinal
injuries and the proper subsequent
medical treatment.
“One day we’d like to help more people
than just athletes,” Taliaferro said. “But
for now, we’ll just keep doing what we are
doing until we get enough money to help
more people.”
Mission Statement
The Adam Taliaferro Foundation’s
mission is to provide an educational
resource for all medical personnel,
coaches, athletic administrators, athletes
and families. These injury recognition
and medical response procedures are
vital to the successful recovery process of
the individual. It is also the intention of the
foundation to provide grant funding for
all football players who sustain this type
of injury, and who will need to retrofit
their lives to accommodate their
ambulatory requirements.
